Raphaël Millière, Ertegun Alumni Scholar (2018), who just recently completed his DPhil at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, has been awarded one of the prestigious Presidential scholarships in Society and Neuroscience at Columbia University. The Presidential Scholars in Society and Neuroscience (PSSN) programme aims to facilitate cross-disciplinary, collaborative research to advance the understanding of mind, brain, and behavior. The programme fosters, and independently funds, direct communication and knowledge sharing between experts in the natural and social sciences, arts, and humanities; thus creating a new paradigm for interdisciplinary university-sponsored research. A highly competitive programme, it awards up to nine three-year scholarships per year.
Raphaël says: "I am indeed delighted -- this is a dream position for me, as it is an interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship within a programme for researchers that work at the crossroads between the humanities (or social sciences) and neuroscience. It is not unlike the Ertegun Programme in many respects: a small community of scholars exchanging ideas across their disciplines, and sharing a common space. This will also be an opportunity to extend the Ertegun alumni network in New York!"
